President Donald Trump held his final campaign appearance at the Lincoln Memorial on Monday, one day before voters head to the polls. He used the event to announce the completion of repairs to the Reflecting Pool and to deliver a closing message to the nation.
The Interior Department spent months on the project. Trump claimed the pool is now better and more beautiful than it has ever been. He also repeated his allegation that vandalism was involved in the damage. "The people from Interior have been incredible," he said. "And the pool is now better and more beautiful than it’s ever been before. And we’re very proud of it."
Trump traveled from the White House for the event after attending nearly 30 rallies. He told voters that the 2026 midterms are the most important in a lifetime. He called the Democratic slate the most extreme and dangerous in American history. "These are the most dangerous candidates ever put up," he said.
Pollsters report that the high cost of living is the top issue for voters this cycle. Trump did not address that specific concern during his remarks. Instead, he described the U.S. economy as strong and resilient.
Historical data shows the party in power typically loses seats in midterm elections. Republicans currently hold a razor-thin majority in Congress. Final polls point to potential success for Democrats in the upcoming vote.
