The University of Texas at Austin will rebrand its entire medical operation as UT Dell Medicine starting today.

The move unifies the existing Dell Medical School and the clinical practice formerly known as UT Health Austin under a single administrative umbrella. This consolidation marks the first step in a major expansion of healthcare infrastructure in the capital.

The system will be anchored by a new facility called Dell Medical Center. The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation provided $750 million for the project, a contribution described by officials as one of the largest gifts in American university history. Construction plans for the building are already underway.

Dr. John Zerwas, chancellor of the UT System, stated at a Tuesday event that the new entity is designed to meet rising medical demand in the region. He noted that building an academic health enterprise from the ground up is a rare opportunity for the university. The existing school will serve as the educational core while the new hospital handles expanded clinical needs.

Dr. Claudia Lucchinetti, the university's executive vice president for medical affairs, outlined the new services the center will provide. The facility will add cardiovascular, cancer, neurological, and transplant care to the current roster of orthopedics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, pulmonology, and urology. Lucchinetti said the goal is to stop patients from juggling conflicting appointments across different organizations and instead provide coordinated care teams.

The new hospital will partner with MD Anderson Cancer Center to deliver advanced oncology treatment locally. Officials also said the facility will use artificial intelligence and advanced computing to focus on prevention and diagnosis alongside traditional treatment methods.

University officials project that the new center will triple the patient capacity of the UT Dell Medicine system. The hospital is set to open in 2030.
