Jaylen Brown scored a career-best 30 points for the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. He also blocked a critical three-point attempt by Cade Cunningham with 37 seconds remaining. The 76ers used that defensive stop to hold off the Detroit Pistons for a 112-106 win.

Philadelphia improved its record to 8-1 on the season. The team leads the Eastern Conference. Their only previous loss came in a home game against Detroit. Joel Embiid contributed 26 points and 15 rebounds in the victory. LeBron James added 13 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

Tyrese Maxey struggled offensively during the game. He finished with a season-low 19 points on 5-of-16 shooting. Maxey had averaged at least 26 points in all other games this season. His season scoring average of 29 points is the second-highest in the NBA, trailing only Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry.

Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 26 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds. Duncan Robinson scored 27 points for Detroit. The Pistons lead the Central Division with a 6-2 record. Detroit cut a 17-point deficit to six points in the final stretch before Brown’s block ended their momentum.

LeBron James reached a career milestone during the second quarter. His left-handed runner made him the first player in NBA history to connect on 16,000 field goals. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the second-most career field goals with 15,837. James also recorded two no-look passes to Adem Bona, who converted both into three-point plays.

Joel Embiid drew a technical foul late in the first half. A review indicated he initiated a pushing and shoving incident with Pistons center Tolu Smith. The 76ers will travel to Cleveland on Friday. The Pistons will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
