Spartanburg police are investigating a shooting that left two teenagers dead and a third injured outside a Cook Out restaurant on John B. White Sr. Boulevard. Officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Upon arrival, officers found two individuals with gunshot wounds in the parking lot. First aid was administered at the scene before the victims were transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Both later died from their injuries.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 15-year-old Jayden Marek Watson and 17-year-old Shane Carter Dawkins. A third person was also shot but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A family member transported this individual to the hospital.

Police Chief Art Littlejohn stated that no arrests have been made and suspects have not been identified. He noted that the victims were out after Halloween night, going trick-or-treating and eating, when an irresponsible person pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Littlejohn emphasized that the young people involved were not bad young people. He described them as just kids who were out enjoying the evening. The shooting remains under active investigation by Spartanburg authorities.
