Republican Lisa McClain defeated Democrat Ray Pooley to win a fourth term in Michigan’s 9th Congressional District on November 3. Unofficial results show McClain capturing more than 62% of the vote, while Pooley received under 35%. The victory secures a two-year term with an annual salary of $174,000.
Three other candidates also appeared on the ballot. Working Class nominee Jim Walkowicz earned over 1% of the vote. Libertarian Kevin Vayko received 0.87%, Michigan Taxpayers candidate John Vlahos garnered 0.4%, and Green Party candidate Destiny Clayton secured over 0.35%.
In a profile submitted to C&G Newspapers, McClain outlined her legislative priorities for the coming term. She stated her goal is to make Michigan the best place in America to work, raise a family, and build a business.
McClain said she will focus on protecting auto and manufacturing jobs, lowering energy costs, and supporting farmers. She pledged to strengthen the Great Lakes and keep more money in Michiganders' pockets while fighting Washington bureaucracy and bringing home investments for roads, water systems, and public safety.
The district covers all of Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, and Sanilac counties. It also includes portions of Macomb, Oakland, and Tuscola counties.
